SAM Mouldings Wins the UK Quality Award 2007

Springfarm Architectural Mouldings Ltd (SAM Mouldings) has become the first company ever to win the much coveted UK Business Excellence Award for a second time. Coming seven years after their first success the award was presented at a ceremony in London's Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, on Wednesday 24th October, attended by over 600 business people from both public and private sectors.
MD Sam McCrea was delighted and told the gathered audience: "Never in my life did I expect to be up here again but I'd like to say a big thank-you to all those who have worked so hard to get us back up on this stage. The award creates a great pride in the company and we have gained much this year from the process of entering the Excellence Award."
Richard Holmes, Logistics Controller, who headed up the award entry, explains some of the background to the Award process: "We had to prepare a 75 page analysis of how we run the business and the results we had achieved over the last five years. A team of five assessors also spent three days on site interviewing staff to verify the entry and get additional information. We get a feedback report which highlights areas we need to work on to improve still further."
SAM Mouldings started in 1990 and has grown to a position of market leader in the supply of MDF architectural mouldings to the house building and home improvement sectors in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. Now with a turnover approaching £20 million the company employs over 130 people and is continuing to plan for further expansion.
Gerard Wilson, Key Accounts Manager, sees the focus on customer satisfaction as key to the company's success and says: "Employees throughout the company focus on giving the customer what they want. That keeps the customer coming back and will keep our growth strong into the future."
Julienne McCrea, Director of Business Excellence, expressed her appreciation to the workforce and local bodies for their support. "Without the support of such a dedicated group of employees we couldn't have achieved any of this. I'd also like to thank all the local companies, agencies and government bodies who have supported us in so many ways."
Julienne added “It has been five years since we won the European Quality Award and in that time the company has grown in size dramatically, with many additions in personnel to service our growing customer base. We have been through the upheaval of a major change in our computer systems, have achieved IIP Champion status and we continue to have excellent customer and people results, so we have not been resting on our laurels during the last few years. This success proves that the on-going drive and commitment to excellence in all that we do has not been lost, but simply applied to the now larger SAM Mouldings Family”. |
